212 Fahrenheit nominated for the European Design Awards

Creative agency 212 Fahrenheit has been nominated for the ED-Awards for best European design, in the Exhibition Design category, with their ‘Stories Never to Forget’ bookcase exhibition for the synagogue in Appingedam. The winners will be announced during the award ceremony in Vienna, on May 21.

This is the second year they’ve been nominated for an award in the same category. Albert Buring, one of 212 Fahrenheit’s founders: “It’s such an honor just to be nominated, twice no less! The ED-Awards is a very prestigious prize.”

Although the only Dutch nomination in the exhibit category, they’re not the only Dutchies competing for an award. Dutch designers and agencies have won the most ED-awards three years in a row, and this year, no less than 40 Dutch nominees are up for an award.

Stories Never To Forget

212 Fahrenheit was nominated for a specially designed bookcase, along with 56 unique books, telling the different life stories of Jewish residents in Appingedam, before the Second World War broke out. Tragically, the synagogue is all that remains of a once vibrant Jewish community.

The synagogue is now part of the Stichting Oude Groninger Kerken (foundation for old churches in Groningen). The foundation wanted to tell this story in an original way, and 212 Fahrenheit designed the bookcase, the books and a walking tour to make history come alive.

The ED-Awards

The European Design Awards, also known as the ED-Awards, are annual awards presented to European designers for outstanding work in the communication design field. The ED-Awards is a joint initiative of design magazines from across Europe and endorsed by the International Council of Design. The ED-Awards are judged by a panel of representatives (journalists and design critics) from fifteen European design magazines, while the winning submissions are featured in the ED-Awards Catalogue.

There are 35 award categories, in seven groups, covering branding, packaging, exhibition design, typography, digital design, illustration and self-promotion, among others. There are also three special distinctions: Agency of the year, Best of show and Jury prize. The awards will be handed out in Vienna on May 21, so fingers crossed!

212 Fahrenheit: Raising the bar

Creative agency 212 Fahrenheit specializes in branding, design and spaceships, with a heavy emphasis on the first two and not so much on the latter. In 2016, it was raining awards for the company founded by Albert Buring and Paul Mulder, raking in the prestigious Red Dot Award, the Silver European Design Awards, Bronze, Silver and an Honourable Mention for the International Design Awards.
